Highlights:

  • Experience the gentle laid-back side to India
  • Marvel at the cultural sights and scenery
  • Stay in places with charm and character

Visit South India on this mammoth journey. We start off by exploring Tamil Nadu, where the focus will be on culture, visiting temples (such as the famed Meenakshi Temple) and Indian bazaars. We will also have the opportunity to explore Pondicherry, the former French trading post of the East Indies, with its old world charm as well as the fishing villages and magnificent beaches of Mahabalipuram. We then move on to god’s own destination of Kerala. At the crossroads of myriad ancient maritime trading routes, Kerala boasts great cultural wealth. Egyptians, Phoenicians, Chinese, Arabs, Portuguese and Dutch have successively called in at its ports. Their influences are particularly noticeable in Kochi, a port built on the islands in the Arabian Sea which face the rugged coast of the continent. But Kerala is not just about history. The immense variety of its natural scenery (mountainous jungle, tea farms, flooded paddy fields, coconut plantation, spice gardens, rugged Malabar coast, its extremely rich fauna and flora, and its hospitable inhabitants all combine to make this one of the most appealing parts of India. After exploring Periyar National Park, we take a well deserved rest, first on the backwaters, where the charm and comfort of the houseboats and the natural beauty of the area, with its canals, lakes and lagoons make for a perfect combination, and then on the superb beach at Marari. To culminate this wonderful tour in South India, we end up in Kochi (Cochin), a captivating port with a rich past which symbolises to perfection the eclecticism of Kerala. Design your tailor made tour of South India with Shanti Travel and live out your dream holiday!
